OUR STORY

WE ARE A SMALL FAMILY OWNED AND RUN FARM SPECIALISING IN GROWING FEIJOA'S

Our mission is to supply the freshest and tastiest Feijoas direct to the public.

Located in beautiful Maleny on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia, we are dedicated to producing high quality feijoa's.

Having the perfect micro climate for growing Feijoa's it enables us to be one of the first farms to have Feijoa's available each season in australia. Our season generally starts early February and runs for 6 to 8 weeks.

FACTS ABOUT FEIJOA'S

Feijoa's have a unique and delicious flavour that can sometimes been described as a mixture of custard apple, strawberry and pineapple. The fruit are oval in shape and approximately 20mm to 80mm long and a dull green colour.

The Feijoa is native to Brazil, Paraguay, Urugauy and Colombia. Also known as pineapple guava and guavasteen, Feijoa's grows on the flowering plant Acca Sellowiana. Feijoas are well suited to the Australian climate as they are warm-temperate and sub-tropical plants but require a cold winter to fruit. Here in Maleny we are 450m above sea level so we get a cold dry winter and a warm wet summer, which our trees thrive in.

There are many varieties of feijoa, each having a uniquie flavour and tecture. We grow seven different varieties all fruiting at different times, which enables us to have a long season.

Feijoa's are one of natures superfoods. They are a source of fiber to regulate the digestive tract, vitamin C to strengthen the immune system while reducing inflammation, vitamin A to maintain healthy organ functioning, calcium to build strong bones and teeth, and magnesium to control blood pressure.

The fruits also provide potassium to balance fluid levels within the body, vitamin E to protect the cells against the damage caused by free radicals, copper to develop connective tissues, and other nutrients, including B vitamins, manganese, vitamin K, and folate.

Feijoa fruit contains saponins, which are chemical compounds known as glycosides. Many saponins are thought to have anticancer properties and may lower cholesterol. Feijoa fruit is a good source of the secondary plant metabolites known as flavonoids. Flavonoids are known to play an important role in the prevention of cancer, by inhibiting the growth of tumors. They are also an ally in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
